The biannial air pageant was on at the Point Cook RAAF base and even though I was there to work during the weekend, I was able to sneak away to take some photos.
I’m not a big aircraft expert, and I actually couldn’t confidently tell you the names of any the planes pictured here, but I don’t like to waste a unique opportunity such as this.
Taking photos of planes on the ground isn’t all that exciting because let’s face it, that’s not where they belong, but it helps set the scene, so I thought that it was important not to neglect it.
As for capturing planes in action, one thing that I don’t like is just to see a plane on a flat blue sky. To help give the shots some context and depth, I much prefer to see clouds in the pictures as well.
If I was taking photos of them to catalogue them (and I know plane-spotters do this) that would be acceptable, however, I like to think of myself as a story teller instead.
Sometimes I just need to stop over-thinking things though. I just wanted to have some fun with my camera, and that’s what I did here.
